Congratulations! Very happy for you guys.  🍻

Funny, those folks grew up driving the roads, so for them it's just another day.  They know all the spots they can move over, and the etiquette.  My thought is you need to even the playing field.

Order a jacked up F350 Dually, with a snow plow and Texas license plates, instead of the Subaru.  Put some fear in the hearts of the natives! 😉

One other thing.  You may need to trade in that Honda/Hannigan rig for a more appropriately narrow BMW/Ural setup.  Preferably in yellow.  😎

Oh, Great Scot, you forgot about the  set of Texas Longhorns mounted on the front of the hood.....so wide they are....they serve as scratching posts for other cars.

Thanks.

This is the historical info on the place I will be buying a flat. https://www.thehighlandclub.co.uk/history-fort-augustus-abbey

This is the olde Benedictine Abbey/School that we are buying a flat in.

-- attachment is not available --

The flat/apartment just above the black chess pieces, on the 2nd floor, is the one we are looking to purchase. Has 5 windows looking out onto the chess board and the Cloister Gardens.

Such a lovely place!

Miles (@miles-ladue)  Are you guys going to stop by and see the new "endangered Pygmy Hippo that was just born in the Scotland Zoo?

Might make a nice suitcase for your travels. 😉

Great Scot, what a mean thing to say....using that endangered  Pygmy Hippo  as a suitcase.

Oh My ...?

I did see the pictures of  it this morning.

Maybe  they can put it in  Loch Ness,  and it can play  tag with Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster.

Probably tougher than an American Tourister, and an Ogio combined.  😉

Is a cute little bugger.  😎

Any updates worthy of note? Thoughts on where you'll keep & service the rig?

Since you asked....Sir Scott....on our next trip to Scotland, wherein we actually receive the keys to our new flat in the olde Benedictine Abbey, we will make an attempt to SEE the new baby Pygmy Hippo, as she is in the Edinburgh Zoo, and my wife loves visiting zoos. The animals there are much more intelligent than the hominids visiting them.

Our next trip is December 18th...as in next month. BTW....in the next 6 (ish) months, I have reservations for 13 more air flights, already reserved and paid for, but to be fair, the 13 flights include legs from here and there, as individual flights, ergo, example....Fly from Seattle to Dublin, then Dublin to Edinburgh, then on the return...Edinburgh to London, then London to Seattle, that is 4 flights on this one upcoming trip.

Remember, I just finished 4 flights last week...Seattle to Paris...Paris to Edinburgh...Edinburgh back to Paris, and then Paris back to Seattle.

In February...Seattle to Chicago...Chicago to Orlando...Orlando to Frankfurt...Frankfurt to Munich...and then Munich to Seattle.

In April...Seattle to Frankfurt....Amsterdam to Edinburgh...Inverness to Amsterdam...and finally Frankfurt to Seattle.

To answer your question (which I eventually do)...the Euro-Wing sidecar rig will arrive in Heidelberg in late April, we receive it around April 20th (ish), then spend 2 weeks sidecaring around Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, then leave that rig with Stefan Knopf at his warehouse in Heidelberg. For the time being, that rig will tentatively be used on the Euro continent, be cared for and serviced at the storage place in Heidelberg, and at some point be taken up to Scotland and used to travel around the Scottish Highlands whence all the dust has settled form all our life changes.

The flights noted about in this upcoming February trip, is because we have decided to go ahead and purchase ANOTHER Subaru XV to have and keep on the Euro continent. That was the original plan, that was put aside whence I just bought a Subaru XV from a dealer in Edinburgh, and will be used for driving every narrow/skinny/life threatening roadway in the UK and Ireland. But after discussion with my wife, and at her direction, we decided to stick with the plan to have a separate car ON the Euro continent, therefore....a Subaru Outback Touring in the USA...a Subaru XV SE Premium in Scotland...and a Subaru XV (think the USA's version of the Crosstrek) on the Euro continent, also stored at Stefan Knopf's place in Heidelberg.

WHY ? The Great Scot asks.....

Elementary, my dear Watson...er...Scott.

To drive any of our "cars" from Frankfurt or Amsterdam to Edinburgh or Inverness, or from our flat in Fort Augustus....or to do the reverse direction drives....it would take an "average" of 3 days travel. Can be done in 2, or as long as 4, but an average of 3 days, due to ferry schedules, etc. The cost of driving those 3 days, for fuel, hotels, meals, etc comes to roughly $ 1,000.

To do the exact same trip, but leaving our car(s) in a secure location, and then FLYING from one location to the other, is a 4 hour trip...All-In...a total of 4 hours. And whilst it comes close to the same cost overall to fly two people from A to B, the savings is TIME. 4 hours vs 3 days.

We will get to experience the "joy" of the English Channel ferry crossings due to bringing the Eur-Wing sidecar rig up to the flat in Scotland, and will do that possibly twice a year, for the next 10 years, so not missing out on that experience.

See, Sir Scott...it's all your fault for asking me a question. Scared

And here I'm looking forward to a direct flight from Perth airport to the new international airport outside Phnom Phen.

That itinerary make me feel...... well nothing really.

But glad it's not mine...

Great answer!  Having a car at the ready in each location makes a lot of sense to me.

Just heard about this app called Airable.  Kind of like Uber, but with semi-private/corporate planes.  Not sure if it works in Europe or Britain.  Seems like a pretty great way to get around.  If this app doesn't work in Britain/EU maybe there is something similar.  I like being able to travel quickly at the last minute from local airports, hence my interest.

Here's a link to their website.  https://airble.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqOi_1MGV--ynROR9F1ytSDC2o9Gqgm-PfCt9s5Z-_8J6E3MnMQ

Sidenote: I was looking to see if there was a commercial building near Fort Augustus for sale.  I found several BnBs/hostels/hotels for sale, and it brought up the question;  Why would you buy a beautiful and secluded flat with limited room for all of us to come invade... err... visit, when you could have been a hotel manager/tour guide for all of us?  😉

Ah, the answer is quite simple...I don't want to spend my retirement supervising you hooligans.

<parse>

IME, the residents of zoological gardens are more intelligent than the bipedal hominids observing them because they deliberately keep their lives simple and don't get involved with distractions like airplanes, ferries, motos and elections.

OTOH, those penguins at the CPZoo are some crazy mofos!

@miles-ladue  I assume the Euro-wing sidecar is on the right. Lucky thing the lane between the hedgerows are so narrow to preclude passing, otherwise could result in much marital discord.
