Here's a good thing do do of a National Holiday:
This parade was in Gibbon, Nebraska, about 1 1/2 hour southeast of my location. For a town of only 1900 people, they do a heck of a parade. Hundred of entries (we were #20). The route winds all the way through the town so that main street isn't a crowded, parking lot from hell. Almost 1.5 miles in total length and we rarely stopped.
During the route I saw a couple of my former students and their parents. They yelled at us to join them for lunch after and texted me the address. We did join them and I gave three newly minted adults their first sidecar experience, and possibly their first motorcycle experience. This was probably the best July 4 I've ever experienced.
Now if I can get the dog to stop shaking and go outside. Hmm. I think I might have one more dose of Doggie Valium for that purpose...

Sidecar Willie isn't "Afraid" of the fireworks. But they catch him off guard and alarm him. He goes nut's barking at them. Bad thing is he's always laying in my lap (look up lap dog. See pic of Willie) and he leaps towards the door to get the big bang. Well this hurts me more than it hurts him. Trust me. If ya know what I'm saying,,,lol.
I just had an idea to try something. We're sitting here in the Lazy-boy and he's in his spot. Every so often I let out a "boom, bang, pow" to get him used to weird, loud noises. He just looks at me like I'm crazy and jumps up in my face,,,,lol. Now he's on guard looking out the door and hopefully won't be as surprised when the next ones go off.
I got new neighbors 2 years ago. I'm the youngest guy in the neighborhood at 63. They are young partier's with a pool. Everybody hates them. I try to let things be. But for 2 years now I've picked up their smoldering fireworks out of backyard and off my roof. Willie wants to go out and see what the noise is. I had to grab him to keep him from trying to get smoking fireworks. I'm not going to say what someone MIGHT do with said recovered fireworks. Did I mention they have a pool,,,,lol.
BTW. Fireworks are illegal in Illinois.

This IS the season for small town parades! Here's from today - Merna Nebraska where I work. First time for me and I've only been in the territory 12 years! Right after dinner the drizzle that was going on during lineup turned into a significant number of severe thunderstorms so we beat feet for home!
