Looking for starter sidecar
Quote from sbaldwin_95 on January 19, 2017, 2:52 pmI have been riding a solo bike for most of my life, and have heretofore been using my 883 sportster as my primary commuter vehicle. However, I now have two cousins who I take to work with me (I'm a teacher) and I was looking for a reasonably priced used hack that would be able to take a 25 mile each way trip so that I don't have to be ina cage. If anyone has anything along those lines that they are looking to let go, please let me know.

sbalwin, welcome to the offset sidecar universe. My first rig, which still remains my, and my dog Maddie's, personal favorite, was a Texas Ranger mated to a 2002 XL883R Sportster. After mounting the car, two modifications to the bike made it a great rig: 1) geared it down a little with a 1-tooth smaller aftermarket front pulley; and 2) installed a 5-degree "raked" triple tree to reduce trail for lower steering effort and reduce input from road imperfections. Altho not the fastest nor the most sporty handling rig, this Sportster/Ranger rig is an excellent handling rig within its limits:
I sold this rig to a young lady over in Texas a couple years ago, but I admit I still miss it.
I don't have any leads for a sidecar suitable for a Sportster, but I think Roland still has his Suzuki 800cc/Velorex rig for sale down here Louisiana, which has served well as a primary commuter vehicle back-and-forth to school & work for Roland and family: http://www.sidecar.com/mbbs22/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=14271&posts=9&start=1

Quote from capuett on January 22, 2017, 11:44 amI have a 2012 Velorex 563 with Gustafsson low windshield. Original tall windscreen, unused top, top struts, unused brake cable and canvas tonneau cover. Universal Velorex attachment fixtures, Superbright leds along with original incandescent lamps. Also includes a very new Avon 3.50X19 Sidecar duty front tire (can also be used as a rear).
A new Velorex 563 runs about $3100 without the extras mine has.
http://www.velorexusa.com/retailprice.shtml
I'd probably take $2300 for mine, which is in near new condition.
I'm close enough to you, St. Joseph, MO, for you to pick it up and save a bunch in shipping charges. I could deliver it to Shenandoah for a reasonable fee.

Quote from sbaldwin_95 on January 22, 2017, 11:17 pmCapuett, I may be interested in that. Could you possibly upload some photos? Would I need to get any additional hardware for it to be able to attach to my bike?

Quote from capuett on January 23, 2017, 10:38 amsbaldwin_95, the Velorex 563 looks just like the all black one in the Swampfox post above. I'm not really familiar with uploading pictures here. If you would send your mobile telephone number to me in a personal message I'd be happy to text some photos to you.
I have all the universal mounting brackets, hardware, etc. Should be all you need to mount the hack to your Sportster. Some people recommend using motorcycle make/model specific mounting brackets; some don't and do fine with the universal mounts.
I will send a PM to you with my cell number also.
Thanks for your interest.

Quote from sbaldwin_95 on January 23, 2017, 12:02 pmI have a dark red, almost maroon bike, so a black hack should look just fine. That was all I was worried about.

Quote from mayrel47 on March 2, 2017, 10:37 amI have a 2007 Vstar 1100 classic with Ural sidecar for sale. I have reduced the price to $6000. It will be relocated to Palatka FL next week; we're moving. I would consider selling the sidecar separately with the mounting hardware which is basically a universal mounting system. Depending on the bike you would attach it to, the struts might need to be lengthened or shortened, although they are adjustable about 2.75 in or out. I'd let the sidecar go for $2000 plus shipping which you would need to take care of. Not knowing your location, shipping might be an issue. Hope this helps. John

Quote from wvsporty on March 2, 2017, 12:55 pmI have an 01 883C with an 80ish Velorex 562 . Love the combo and Aiden and I have been running it since July 2011. We did a 1400 mile round trip to The tail of the Dragon and had a blast riding the Dragon several times as well as all the surrounding byways. After a new ignition/timing box and a little tuning I can maintain 80 MPH on the highway and done some minor mods to the sidecar just because I could.
